Particle Steering in particle accelerators using bent crystals

Positron Source

In a curved crystal, channeled particles are forced to follow the curvature of the crystal, as if they were following "tracks."

When photons pass through matter, they produce electron-positron pairs, which can be separated using a strong magnetic field. Sources of this type can be integrated into future colliders, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC), a 100 km accelerator ring to be built at CERN.
